Question

MS Excel. Lookup values from 3 columns in tab X when criteria met

Asked by: budorat

Hi,

I have a spreadsheet where I need the most efficient way to populate three columns in tab "Manning List" when certain conditions are met. I will do my best to explain.

Populate tab "Manning List", column V, X, Y
With tab "2009"  column N,O,P
Where cell value Manning List, Fx = cell value 2009, Ex

I need the procedure to start at cell V7 on Manning List tab.

I have only asked part 1 of this Q. The second part is to use the same procedure to then apply the same principal to

Manning List Y, Z, AA = With tab "2010"  column N,O,P
Manning List AB, AC, AD = With tab "2011"  column N,O,P
Manning List AE, AF, AG = With tab "2012"  column N,O,P

I hope this makes sense.

Can you pls expand

Sorry Dave,

"Manning List" is name of tab,
"2009" is name of tab

The x I put after F and E was a variable for the rows...

So, Where value F = value E, I need to populate columns V,X and Y with '2009'!N, '2009'!O and '2009'!P

Is this a little clearer ? It been a long long day !!! lol

So 'Manning Lis't V7 would be
=IF(F7='2009'!E7,'2009'!N7,"")
X7
=IF(F7='2009'!E7,'2009'!O7,"")
Y7
=IF(F7='2009'!E7,'2009'!P7,"")

Did you want this auomated with VBA or would you use this function as is?

Cheers

Dave

Would much prefer automated with VBA.

I may not have explained myself clearly.

The data in tab '2009' is not is the same order as the data in tab 'Manning List', therefore I need to find value ManningList!V7 within range 2009!E1:Exx where xx is the number of rows, then return use values from column N, O, P of the returned row into V, X, Y.

Is this clearer. Sorry Dave, I hope I am not frustrating you. I am just having one of those days. I am normally much much clearer in my explanations.

Just about there now. :)

I presume you meant Mannung List!F7 (not V7) in
therefore I need to find value ManningList!V7 within range 2009!E1:Exx

?

This code will add lookup up formulas for the used part of column F in sheet Manning List (from F7 down)

Cheers

Sorry Dave,

did not see the post when I posted the previous one.

Almost working. I noticed I posted V,X,Y when it should have been V,W,X.. sorry I am working on a file that was created by someone else and they had a hidden column. I have amended your code as follows, the prob is that I get teh same value in ther first two columns.

I take it I just have to adjust the code for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 sheets for columns Y,Z, AA ; AB,AC,AD and AE,AF,AG ?

Am I right in thinking the columns referred to in the code are relative to the starting column ?

I also need to restrict the range to row 523 now..... the problem with using other peoples spreadsheets, you never know them like your own.

Hi Kev,

The adjusted code below will solve your inital question

To adjust for Y,Z,A looking at N,O,P use

rng1.Offset(0, Columns("Y").Column - Columns("F").Column).Resize(rng1.Rows.Count, 3).FormulaR1C1 = "=IF(NOT(ISNA(MATCH(RC6,'2010'!C5,0))),INDEX('2010'!C[-11],MATCH(RC6,'2010'!C5,0)),""Vacant"")"

which says publish in columns Y: AA of Mannining List   looking at 2010 column N,O,P

Y-N = 11 which is way it uses C[-11]

Cheers
