Thanks for that. Problem is if it had been renamed then the next time she saves the original document it should re-create another 'backup of'' xxx.xlk file, but it doesnt - it actually over-writes the problem file meaning that even Excel thinks that it this is the correct backup file.
I'm flumexed on this one!

I can configure a workbook to back itself up (BackupCreator.xls) which creates (Backup of BackupCreator.xlk)
Your user may have opened the backup, intending to restore it, tried to save it as the original filename.
She may have noticed that it was an XLK, and tried to save it as (BackupCreator.XLK) using SaveAs. This isn't an option there.
She may then have exited Excel and simply RENAMED her file as BackupCreator.xlk, manually, thereby keeping what she thought was the proper extension.
I think she may need to only open her XLK file and SaveAs, back to the XLS extension (remember to re-enable the Backup setting since it is not part of her XLK file)
