The same documents open perfectly when the network cable is unplugged.
Even when the user is at home, the docs open quickly when he is disconnected from the internet and very slowly when connected to the internet.
Checked for viruses / malware. Then removed all virus software / firewalls.
Ran TCPview and it showed the PC is trying to access mail.(mydomain.com):micros
In TCPview it says SYNC-SENT. It seems to be trying to send data and then waits for a response. After say 30 seconds, it gets no response and then the doc opens.
It fails instantly when the network cable is unplugged and therefore the file opens quickly.

Strangely enough we realized it had to do with network printers. If we delete the network printers and then go online, the problem doesn't occur.
The problem is of course that every time he goes back to the office, the login script receates those printers and he has to delete them again every time he leaves the office. Not a very elegant solution. Any ideas?
Hi,
Have you tried disabling the automatic search for network printers and folders by changing folder options?
To disable the automatic search for network printers and folders, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and click Folder Options to open the Folder Options dialog box.
Click the View tab.
