The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Formula works in Excel 2003 but not 2007 (Reference Ranges)

Asked by darienk in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Hi all,

I was hoping you could help me with this formula. It works fine in Excel 2003, but gives me a #Value error in Excel 2007. I'm new in using 2007, so I expect this is a new feature I'm not familiar with.

The real code appears below, but I will attempt to simplify here. This is a nested 'IF' stmt intended to scan for scenarios 1 through 4 and add up different cells in the column if the stmt is evaluated as TRUE.

There may be a more organized way to write this (without using a macro - needs to be macro free), but my issue is that this code works fine in Excel 2003 and NOT in Excel 2007.

When I use the evaluate formula in Excel 2007 I get this:
When:
Scenario = 4
thisColumn = $D:$D
Red = 1
FeeRange = Calculations!$D$1:$M$61

Step 1: (Scenario = 1) : False
Step 2: (thisColumn Red) : True -- Jumps to the next IF stmt

Step 3: (Scenario = 2) : False
Step 4: (thisColumn FeeRange = "YES") : #Value! (evaluation stops)

The above in Excel 2003 reports as 'True' and in 2007 reports as '#Value'

I've checked the names list and everything is assigned properly.

Thanks!
1:
=IF(Scenario = 1, thisColumn Red, IF(AND((Scenario = 2), (thisColumn FeeRange = "YES")), thisColumn Orange, IF(Scenario = 3, MIN(thisColumn Yellow, thisColumn Green, thisColumn Blue), IF(AND(Scenario = 4, thisColumn TestRange = TRUE), MIN(thisColumn Red, thisColumn Yellow, thisColumn Green, thisColumn Blue, IF(AND(thisColumn FeeRange = "YES", thisColumn Orange > 1), thisColumn Orange, 9999999)), (IF(thisColumn Orange > 0, MIN(thisColumn Red, thisColumn Orange), thisColumn Red))))))
