Question

How Can I Change a Cell Reference When Inserting a Formula in a Cell Through VBA?

Asked by: Rex85

I am using VBA to insert the following formula in a cell.

="CAR REQ "&TEXT(NOW(),"yy")&" "&TEXT(ROW(A1),"00000")

The code looks for the next available row and inputs the data, including inserting this formula, in that row.

If I use the above formula, I will always get Row A1 info returned. I need that cell reference to be dynamic. That is, instead of always being A1, I need it to reference the cell where it is being placed. If that the next available row is A200, then it shoud be A200. Can anyone tell me the best way to achieve that?

Below is the statement that inserts the formula

CorrectSheet_String is the variable for the worsheet where the data will be place. NextRowtoPasteDate is the cell where the formula will be placed.

'After Determining the Correct Worksheet Above, Now Select the Next Available Row

Application.GoTo Reference:=CorrectSheet_String.Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0), Scroll:=True
    ActiveCell.Activate
    ActiveCell.Select
    Set NextRowToPasteDate = Selection

CorrectSheet_String.NextRowToPasteDate.Formula = "CAR REQ " & Text(Now(), "yy") & " " & Text(Row(A1), "00000")

Use the following line...

Saurabh...

CorrectSheet_String.NextRowToPasteDate.Formula = "CAR REQ " & Text(Now(), "yy") & " " & Text(Row(A& NextRowToPasteDate.row), "00000")

You could use R1C1 format:

CorrectSheet_String.NextRowToPasteDate.FormulaR1C1 = "=""CAR REQ "" & Text(Now(), ""yy"") & "" "" & Text(Row(RC1), ""00000"")"

Correction below as NextRowToPasteDate is a Range object.

Saurabh, I think you might want to check yours again! ;)

NextRowToPasteDate.FormulaR1C1 = "=""CAR REQ "" & Text(Now(), ""yy"") & "" "" & Text(Row(RC1), ""00000"")"

Thank you both. For whatever reason, the solution above was the one that worked. Sorry to take so long. I had some other errors to debug before this piece of the code could run, so that I could prove it out. Thanks again.
