Hyperlink formula not working

=HYPERLINK("file name.xls#'"&SheetNameFromCodeName("Sheet"&B3)&"'!A1",SheetNameFromCodeName("Sheet"&B3))

Please see attached file and gif shows the error I get.

also make sure that file name.xls that you are trying to bring up has the .xls extension not .xlsx (you seem to be using excel 2007 from the screenshot)

I am using Excel 2007 because I feel comfortable using its tables and it has more features.  What should I do to make it work.  Also, I am constantly changing the file name.

Does the formula automatically check for my file name or do I have to manually update the formula every time I change the file name?

The file 'file name.xls' has to be in the same location as the file from which you are linking

no, the formula does not check for the file name. It has to be named the same as it is in the formula (in this case file name.xls)

It's fine to use excel 2007, just make sure that the extension of the file you are using is .xls

if it is .xlsx you will need to adjust the fformula accordingly

would it be ok to connect to my PC.  I am have adjusted the formula to .xlsx and nothing.  I keep getting the same error.

Are you sure that the file you are trying to open is in the same location as the file with the links?

I am simply trying to open the tabs within the same file.  To connect I just send you a link, and you connect, it is really that simple.

okay, try this...

add this function to your vba where the SheetNameFromCodeName function is

Function MyName() As String

    MyName = ThisWorkbook.Name

End Function


Then change the formula to be

=HYPERLINK(MyName()&"#'"&SheetNameFromCodeName("Sheet"&B3)&"'!A1",SheetNameFromCodeName("Sheet"&B3))

(except change the b3 to whatever the appropriate cell is, of course)

Sorry in my example file, I just fixed the function in cell C4 -- copy it down to the other two cells.
