Question

Excel LOOKUP, need to populate a matching value

I have a list with 2 columns that have Job Type in Column1 and Rate in Column2. These columns are referred in the main spreadsheet and when a user chooses (in a drop-down menu) which is populated from vaules in Column1, I want the corresponding value in Column2 to populate the Rate value.

Here is an example...
My lookup list:
Column1                 Column2
System Engineer    $67
Project Manager     $75
System Admin         $67

The above columns are each configured as named lists (NameBox) and when a user picks a Job Type from Column1, I want the Rate to automatically populate from the associated vaule from Column2,

I appreciate your help!

Assuredly! The tab "2010" has the cell wher the data is displayed (eg C31 to C35), with E31 to E35 needing to display the Rate to match the Job in column C.

The tab entitled "People & Variables" has the source data in the table E3 to F24 (Job Classification).

=IF(C31="","",VLOOKUP(C31,'People & Variables'!$E$4:$F$24,2,FALSE))

Put that in e31

then drag the formula down

With the range 'People & Variables'!$E$4:$F$24 named 'jobrates' the formula in 2010!E1:E35 can be:

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(C31,jobrates,2,FALSE)),"",VLOOKUP(C31,jobrates,2,FALSE))

and copied down the column

The ISERROR() will take care of there being no job type being specified in either sheet '2010' or 'People & Variables'. It's a useful catch-all syntax.
