How can I determine at runtime what is calling a particular function

Hi,

How can I determine at runtime what is calling a particular function which I have break pointed. Is there a call stack or anything similar?

Hello bowemc,

Not that I know of but set a breakpoint at the return and use step F8 to step out to the calling function works fine.

I apologise, you spurred me to look rather than react.  Open the locals window from teh view menu and then double click the ellipis at the RHS.  You will get a call stack ... all these months I have wanted such and failed to look properly!

You can also use Ctrl+L or View-Call stack. No programmatic access to it though. :)

chris_bottomley - I had tried stepping through the method with F8 previously, but the method seemed to be calling itself.

The call Stack says "[<Non-Basic Code>]", does that mean it is an in-cell formula that may be calling it?

Yes - that means that some native Excel functionality is triggering it. If you use it as a worksheet function, then Application.Caller would return a reference to the range that is using the function.

ALso implies a cell formula or rather lots of them being called one after the other following a change on the sheet
