Excel Macro to send email without an Outlook Profile

I have numerous users who do not have email addresses but do have MS Office 2003.  I would like to write a macro to enable them to send a specific excel file via email to our accounting department.  I do not want to set up an email address and Outlook profile for all of these users.  I've written several macros that send email from excel but have always needed an Outlook profile.  Is it possible to send email from Excel without the sender having an Outlook profile?

I found that site and already tried it.  All I ever get is:
Run-time error '-2147220973(80040213)':
The transport failed to connect to the server.

Update: If I change the SMTP server to the internal name of my exchange server ("exch") rather than the external URL I no longer get any error message but no email is delivered.

I use this code portion below to automatically retrieve the server details from the registry (assuming Outlook) is installed - does this help?

The value stored in registry matches what I have in the macro.  Since I am no longer getting any error I have to assume the macro is working correctly  and the problem lies with my exchange server.  I will switch gears and look there.
