The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Change size of checkbox in Excel

Asked by glennes in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

I want to create a checkbox control in my worksheet where I can re-size the dimensions of the checkbox, but I understand that is not possible when using the standard Excel ActiveX checkbox control.  I searched Experts Exchange to see what I could find on this topic, and found two approaches that sound good, but I'm not having any luck making them work.

One expert responded with the text quoted below. What he's saying makes sense, but I have no ideal how to "trap the Selection_Change event of the cell". I can put the Dingbats symbol in a cell, but not sure how to do the rest.

"You could alternatively create you own checkbox using empty and filled ballot box characters. These may be found with the Insert...Symbol menu item--empty it is Unicode 2610; checked, it is Unicode 2611. You can find it on the Miscellaneuous Dingbats submenu. As a font character, you can size it as you wish. To use it as a checkbox, you would trap the Selection_Change event of the cell, then change from one character to the other."

Another expert suggested this code for doing the task, but I don't understand what he's saying to do:

Create a Custom Property
'    (Declarations)
     Private yesno As Boolean

    Property Let Changed(yy As Boolean)
      yesno = yy
    End Property

    Property Get Changed() As Boolean
     Changed = yesno
    End Property

'In the Changed Events of the Control you want to track just paste the following code:

   Form1.Changed = True

Can some of the experts elaborate on the above approaches, or provide me with another method to create a checkbox that I can re-size?

Thanks!
