The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Trouble with Excel SMF Add-in after upgrading OS

I have an Excel spreadsheet that uses the SMF add-in:
http://www.traineetrader.com/importing-stock-quotes-to-excel-using-smf-add-in/

Just did a clean install of Win7 (upgrade from XP) and re-installed Office 2003. Followed the instructions above, extracting add-in files to C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in. From there, the process gets strange...

In Excel, I go to Tools\Add-ins and point to the XLA file in C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in. When I do it prompts me to overwrite the existing file(?). I say OK.

If I then go back to Tools\Add-ins, it's actually pointing to C:\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Addins. Always reverts to this directory.

Opening my Excel file, it says "This workbook contains links to other sources..." I can update or not update - I choose update. It says links can not be updated and gives me the option to edit links - I choose edit links. Here my options are:
(1) Update Values - says Excel cannot find (particular function) in XLA file; the name I specified may not be defined, or the name I specified is something other than a rectangular cell reference...
(2) Change Source - I point it to the XLA file in C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in; same error as (1) above.
(3) Open Source - I get error that XLA file is already open and I can't open two files with the same name. (I get this error even if I close everything and just try to open the XLA file, so maybe this is the root of the problem?)

I have tried moving the Add-in files to the C:\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Addins, and I have tried changing the links in the excel document to point to C:\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Addins, but neither helps.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Office.

I have tried these solutions (http://www.officekb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/excel/8692/Error-message-when-Excel-97-file-is-opened) with no luck.

I need to get this resolved ASAP. Please help!
