Save XSL(X) worksheet as XML

Hi all,

it seems this is a know problem/issue with many people, but I have been searching around for almost 2 hours trying to find a solution a quick solution, but nothing :(

If I have a Excel file (2003 or 2007) that has a worksheet (three columns of data), how can I save this data into XML?

(Note: I am using Excel 2007, and for some reason I can't see the XML option under the 'Data' menu - which is there in Excel 2003).

When saving click on "Save AS" . Below the name of the file, you will see a drop down menu where you will have the option to save as xml.

XML controls are found under the Developer tab. If you don't see the Developer tab, go to the ribbon and select Excel Options. It should default to popular and the third option listed is Show Developer tab. Make sure that box is checked.

It's pretty simple. You just need to map your data to xml file or schema. Please see the screencast how to save excel spreadsheet to xml file at . I've also attached all files were used during the screencast recording. Thanks

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Michael Maramzin: do you have a link to that Screencast? I can't seem to find it through google?

Also, when I click on the 'XML Maps...' button, a prompt comes up and then I select the 'Add' button, and then its asking me to browse for an XML source file :-s I dont have a XML source file, but I want an XML file generated from this XSLX file :-s I'm a little confused :-s

The link is http://screencast.com/t/MC9sqBieIIy. Did you review it? I showed step-by-step how to save excel spreadsheet to xml. You need to create own XML file (or XSD schema) and map the Excel data to that file before exporting. Can you upload your excel spreadsheet here? In that case, I'll be able to create a xml mapping file for your real data. Thanks

I take it the first row in the XML Map file relates to the column headers and the other row represents the collections of rows after the column headers?
