Browse All TopicsHi all,
I'm in a sticky one right now. I successfully moved my MOSS content db from one SQL instance to another (SQL 2005 Express 32 to SQL 2005 64), but I am stuck with my admin db. I have done what they did here: http://guru-web.blogspot.c
I'm using the same account that I used to move the content db, and I have even tried my Network Admin account - I've also give these full ownership of the new db in SQL...
Please help!
Thanks, Warren

Ok this is what the blog says
Open IIS -> Expand application pool -> right click sharepoint central admin -> check the identity tab and take note of the account
Add that account to the local admin
Run Cmd using that account and the run the stsadm account to add the central admin database
Note: Central admin database is just the database that the central admin is running off so after the move if your farm has the central admin running you dont really have to worry about it. But i am not sure of the steps you have done on the farm once the databases were moved so am not sure if it is necessary for you.
Ah - that makes sense! A that's also what I did not do.
I'll try it tonight and report back - thank you.
Re your note, I'm just moving everything to the a SQL 64bit instance because it is currently on a SQL Express 32bit instance and I like to have eveything neat and tidy and using 4 CPUs instead of one.
ok i am trying to see if you really need to move this admin database.
Once you moved the databases from one SQL server to the other, did you move the config database as well ?
Did you run the config wizard to connect to a new farm and then create a central admin site ?
Because if you have the central admin up and running then i dont see a point in moving the old central admin database
Did you do an IIS reset after chaning the application pool account ? Does that account have permissions on the database ?
I moved the content database without a problem.
I am trying to move the admin db becuase it sits on a SQL express 32 instance nad I would like to remove that instance - I'm only a one-server setup with SBS 2008 and these excess SQL instances are RAM hungry.
I've IIS resets and the accounts I've tried have permissions on the db...
Interesting, the config wizard also fails with an access denied error as well...
Another thing, in Server 2008, there doesn't seem to be a "Local Users" area under computer management - I can't find it anyway - maybe this is the source of my problem?

Are you trying to add the content database for the Sharepint central admin database ?
