Question

Repeating table inside a repeating section in infopath is automatically copying the data down when a new section is inserted. How can I prevent this?

Asked by: binojpb

In the screeshot "Action Item" is a repeating table inside  the section called "Discussion Item".  When I add a new section to enter a discussion item, the data from the repeating table in the above section gets copied in the newly created discusstion item.  How can I prevent this from happening.

Just fyi, it's a browser enabled form.  The middle dropdown list "Assigned to" is populated using data from a sharepoint list.

It's urgent.  Please advise.

Is it just a default or are they linked?

Once you have two sections and two tables can you make them different?

Are you using the default insert new button or are you using code or something to generate the second one?
Typically they should be distinct. This should work in a browser form as well. Do you get any warnings in design checker?
A screenshot of your data source structure would be helpful.

If the action items are not contained within each other then you would get what you want.  If these action items are a seperate node than they would repeat. The action items must be a child of discussions to get what you want. Otherwise when you insert there is nothing that will also create a new action item node.

Hopefully you understand what I am meaning.

Let me answer as best I can.

Not sure what you are referring by "it".

Once you have two sections and two tables can you make them different?
Other fields in the section could be made different but the action items get copied over automatically.  If we try to overwrite, the changes get applied in all sections.

Are you using the default insert new button or are you using code or something to generate the second one?
I use the default insert new button.

Yes this is as I expected.

Do a move and put action item inside of Discussion Items.

DiscussionItems
       discussionItem
      actionItem

Is how it should be. That will give you what you are looking for.

I made the changes you suggested, the problem  still remains.  Please see the attached datasource snapshot.

Sorry, you need to move the action items down one more level under the repeating discussionitem node.  That way when a new discussion is added a new action item is added as well.

Insert a new view and just drag the Discussion items on to test.

You may be able to just rebind the action items repeating table control in your current view, but repeating tables are picky. You may need to remove the action items and add it again.
