Click on Insert, Object, Create from File, Browse, Select the File, OK.
This will actually embed a copy of the Word document into the presentation. If you only need it to be a picture, right click on the doc object, select Document Object, Convert, Microsoft Word Picture. This will make the size of your presentation smaller than embedding the whole document.
If you're going to turn it into a picture, yes. However, if you're really wanting to show an entire document, consider this:
Right click on the Word object and choose Action Settings. Change the mouse click settings to Object Action - Open. When you run the slide show, you can click on the Word document to open it.

Open the word document Ctrl + A (select all) AND copy.
Open the Powerpoint to blank sheet > Edit > Paste Special >
from the box select Microsoft Office word Document object (be sure that "display as Icon" is UNchecked)
You can now resize the whole document as a single object and it should appear just like the word doc.
If your word document contains multiple pages you must copy each page individually instead of the Ctrl + A command.
