How do I stop Powerpoint 2003 from replacing the backslash symbol with the yen (¥) symbol?

Hey all,

We have a laptop here that is replacing the backslash symbol with the yen symbol in Office applications only (other applications, command line, etc, backslash shows up fine).  I was able to turn this off in Word and Outlook by going into Word and the compatibility options, but that change did not seem to affect Powerpoint.  Is there a similar option in Powerpoint, or another way to disable this?

Thanks!

It sounds like a Font isse.  Try using the Replace Fonts feature and see if any odd fonts are in the presentation.  What version of PowerPoint?
Check the AutoCorrect Options in Tools menu. If there is the line to replace backslash with yen sign delete it.

It is Powerpoint 2003.  I attempted the replace fonts feature, no luck there.  The autocorrect does not have a line to replace it - I even tried to put a line in to replace yen with backslash, and it wouldn't work.
The problem with the backslash appearing as a yen sign happens when, in the
regional and language options, Japanese is selected as the language for
non-unicode programs. Try to correct your Regional and language settings.
I've gone to regional/language settings in the Control Panel and made sure everything in there is English.  Is there another place I should be looking specifically?
