Add trackso slide show then save as video

I've been given a presentation (48 slides) and 4 mp3s.
I've been asked if I could have these 4 tracks play as background music for the duration of the slideshow.
I have PPT 2007.
In other words the slideshow will be timed so that it lasts the same duration as the 4 tracks played back to back.
There will be no interaction/clicking for the slides, they need to auto progress.
Once this is achieved I need to save/export the file in a format that can be burnt to DVD and be played on standard (non-PC) DVD players!

I haven't done a great deal with powerpoint in the past beyond the normal slide creation for showing to work colleagues. Not multimedia. I've seen how to insert a sound (from file) and have it last X number of slides but I need to go a couple of steps beyond that. Normally I'd say they should find an expert but this is for a funeral and so I agreed to "give it a go"

    Hey there....regarding your question, it's a little complicated, but definetely doable.

    (1) Insert your sounds/songs, one by one in the slide
    (2) You will now need to adjust the timeline in powerpoint.
    (3) locate the slide, and go to animations in the ribbon
    (4) click on custom animations
    (5)  in the panel, click on one of the items, then select show advanced timeline in drop-down menu.
    (6) Adjust the every item in the timeline at exact time as you want.

    Just bare in mind that when you insert mp3 files in ppt, they are externally linked, which means that once your decide to burn on a DVD, the mp3s will be included in the output and create a much larger file to burn than a single ppt.  Also, when you package your ppt for DVD,  (office button -> publish -> package for cd), a powerpoint viewer will be included in the output, so your audience will view the presentation on dvd without powerpoint installed.

    Also, a simple way is to have the songs start and finish at a specific slide. Then you can do this:
    (1) Go to your first slide(Or wherever you want the first song to start) and click on it.
    (2) From the menu choose  Insert> Movies and Sounds> Sound from a file
    (3) locate your music file
    (4) When a popup window stating "How do you want the sound to start on the slide show" click automatically
    (5) Right click on the music icon and go to 'Custom Animation'
    (6) Where it says whatever the name of your song is you right click on that and go to 'Effect Options'
    (7) Where it says 'Start Playing', click 'From Begining', and where it says 'Stop Playing' select the number thing until it is the number of the slide of your presentation that you want the sound to stop
    (8) Select  the tab called "Sound Settings"
    (9) Check the "Hide Icon during show" button.
    Repeat the same process for the other sounds.
    Then play your slide show.

    The best way to insert multiple songs is to combine them into one using eg  a commercial audio editor or the free editor 'Audacity' and then have them play for at least the number of slides you have (I'd use 999 it makes no difference if its more than the slkides you have) In 2007 > select the sound icon >Sound tools tab > Play sound > play across slides)

    To burn to DVD you need to convert to a video format

    JSRWilson: have you used Audacity much?
    I've installed it and imported the 3 mp3s. Then I choose export as mp3 which only exports the 1st track.
    If I select all 3 tracks and say export selected as mp3 again it only exports track1. How can I merge the 3 tunes. I've looked through the help but can't see it. Maybe it's in an audio jargon that I don't know.
    Apologies this is a bit off track of the original question but hoped you might know how?

    ok I found "quick mix" which seems to overlay the tracks on top of each other resulting in ugly!
    Just to claify I want to have the 3 tracks laid out end to end so that the resultant mp3 duration is the same as the individual mp3s combined. Preferably with a couple of seconds silence between

    ok I've done what I set out to do (not all I need do is try to make the volume consistant across all the MP3s in the single track)
    Sorry to spam this thread with non-PPT content, I didn't realise until now that the creation of the (single) MP3 was going to be a precursor to creating the presentation.

    ok back to PPT, is there a way (after I have included the 9 minute MP3 background) to simply say, I want these (48) slides to animate/move on/transistion/?   every X amount on minutes where X is 9 minutes divided by 48 slides.

    We don't use Audacity much (we have pro software) but you can simply cut and paste tracks on to the end of the existing track, pretty sure there are tutorials around if you google.. You can also generate silence and adjust the volume in Audacity. This needs to be done as you cannot adjust volume (except globally) in PPT. To get your your transitions just work out x/9 (I would work in seconds so 720/48=15??) , set the auto transition time to this and apply to all.
