Question

Can powerpoint viewer 2007 show my presentation on the second screen?

Asked by: zzynx

Hi,

I have a portable PC (running Windows Vista Home) which I want to use to show a powerpoint presentation via a beamer.
I don't want to install the Microsoft Office package on it.
So I installed PowerPoint Viewer 2007 (SP2).

But whenever I start up the viewer, it opens the "Open File" dialog to let me choose a presentation file and then opens it (in full screen mode) on the main screen of the portable. No possibilities to "drag" it to my 2nd screen (extended desktop) so it shows up via the beamer on the big screen in the meeting room.

Even if I drag the "Open File" dialog to my 2nd screen (this is possible), after having selected the presentation is shows up (only) on my portable screen.

My question: What to do to make the presentation visible on the main screen in the meeting room? Or is that simply impossible with PowerPoint Viewer?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

2 posibilities:

- duplicate the window instead of extending the desktop
- Open the system menu of the ppt viewer and choose move.  Then move the window with the arrows.

Thanks for your answer Notexa.

>> - duplicate the window instead of extending the desktop
That's no option since I have to extend my desktop for another application I have to work with during the presentation and I don't want to switch that setting during the demo.

>> - Open the system menu of the ppt viewer and choose move.  Then move the window with the arrows.
I don't see any system menu. The presentation starts in full view mode. I only have the right-click menu showing options like Next, Previous, Go to slide and so on.
And if you mean I have to move the first window (where I have to choose the presentation file to open) as I said that doesn't work. Even if I move that window to the second screen, the presentation opens in the first window.

Another solution is the shareware program powerviewer: http://officeone.mvps.org/powerviewer/powerviewer_download.html
this allows you to choose on which monitor to display the presentation.

Thanks for the link to powerviewer. That's maybe something to consider.

But does that mean your previous 2nd possibility is to be ignored?

Yes, sorry about that.  I checked it and it only works with powerpoint, not the viewer.

I did find another solution:
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/index.html#WinWarden

You can find the method on how to use it here:

Nice find Notexa.
I'm gonna try this as fast as I can and let you know my experiences.
Many thanks.

Hi Notexa,

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make WinWarden do *anything* on my Vista portable.
But in the thread you posted someone mentioned the shareware ZMover (http://www.basta.com/Product.aspx?pid=11) and that one did the trick for me.

So although you didn't provide me a working solution directly, your comments at last brought me to one.
Thanks for that.

Great to hear that you found a solution.  I tried WinWarden and here it worked after "some" fiddeling.  ZMover is indeed a better solution, and not to expensive when you need to use it a lot.

Thanks for the points !
