The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How to enter actual work done per resource per day via VBA in MS Project?

Asked by rmik in Microsoft Project Project Management Software

Hi, experts,

my question concerns using VBA in MS Project for entering actual work for assignments on the project.

I have created a project in MS Project 2003 and now I want to track the project progress. I want to do it on weekly basis by manually entering time spent on each assignment by each individual resource (see screenshot attached). And of course I want to have it done automatically.

We are not using MS Project Server for various reasons. What we have is the resources are reporting their work in separate Excel sheets. From these sheets I am able to collect for each task ID information on how much time has been spent on the task on which day of the year. But I wonder how can I insert this information into MS Project using VBA.

To be more specific on what will be honoured by points in the answer:
I can open and navigate through MPP in VBA, I can open and navigate through XLS(X) in VBA. I don't know how to input into MPP the same information which is usually input in the screen I have attached, but using VBA.

I know there is an Assignment object available with ActualWork property, but what I need to input programatically is "on 25th of August, resource Res 1 has spent 7 hours of actual work on Task 2", "on 26th of August, resource Res 3 has spent 9 hours of actual work on Task 3" (see the screenshot).

I know this can be done by replacing Excels with MS Project Server, but this is not an option for me. I am looking for an information, which objects/methods/properties to use in MS Project VBA  to simulate the manual input I have described above.
