The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I can't install Office 2000 SR-1 on Cybermax OEM Office 2000

How can I get Office 2000 SR-1 installed?

I have a Cybermax Athlon system running Windows 98 second edition with Office 2000 Small Business pre-installed.  I received the Office 2000 Premium SR-1 Patch CD from Microsoft and can't install it.

I've looked at http://www.experts-exchange.com/bin/ShowQ?qid=10658401&search=sr-1 and other questions and didn't see an obvious answer.

The following events occurred when I tried to install:
Load SR-1 Patch CD.
Accept Microsoft Office 2000 EULA.
"The version of Internet Explorer is already compatible."
Click "Update Office".
Ready to Install screen.  Click Next.

Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Small Business.
   Gathering required information...
This screen goes to about 50% on the progress bar.

This dialog appears (with the default location of the network share that Cybermax used for Office CD 1).

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK, or enter an alternate path to ... data1.msi

data1.msi is on Office CD 1.
Remove SR-1 Patch CD.
Load Microsoft Office2000 Small Business (Cybermax OEM) Disk 1.
Browse to E:\data1.msi
Click OK.

Error 1706: No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office SR-1 Small Business.
   The Windows installer cannot continue.

Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update did not complete successfully.
For assistance, contact Microsoft Technical Support.
   See the log file: c:\windows\TEMP\sr1patch\Office 2000 SR-1 Setup(0005).txt

I can add the log file from the installation if requested.  The file is 6KB and isn't obviously useful.  The file ends with:

There is another file named Office 2000 SR-1 Setup(0005)_MsiExec.txt which is 60KB long.  As a sample of what it contains, the following text is found about line 150:

Most of the first 150 lines are "Action" lines, and most of the rest are about 650 property lines.  I won't pust it unless necessary since it is huge, but let me know if you want me to look for anything particular in the file.  I didn't see any obvious smoking gun.Start Free Trial
