Word is becoming slow

I have a Pentium MMX 166 Mhz with Win98 and office 97 installed. It has 48 Mb RAM in 4 cards (2 x 8
Mb and 2 x 16 Mb). The computer works fine until I ask him to close a Word file (new or old). It opens
files quickly, run anything quickly, but when I ask it to close the file (not closing Word), it locks
itself for about 5 seconds (during this time, mouse works and I can access Start menu, if I want to)
and give me back the control. If the file is new, it saves the file and locks after saving, before closing.
If I ask it to close Word, it saves the file and closes quickly. The problem only happens when I ask
it to close files. Any other software works fine...

I formatted the computer some months ago with this problem and the problem disappeared, but it's showing up again... Word is getting slower and slower.. 1 month ago it took 1 second to close the files, today it takes about 3 seconds...

What can I do???
