Is this a question?

by: payalgoelPosted on 2003-03-14 at 09:47:38ID: 8137815

yes , pauloaquia , this is my question. I meant as soon as the excel application is run, the blank worksheet appears, but  the X close button is disabled on it own .
Do u have any solution asap . Its an SOS call .

Which button gets disabled? The document button or the application button?

Do you have any macros running? Open the VBA editor and check the Project Pane to see what projects are open.

Can you press Alt+F4 to close the document (or Alt+F4 for application)? Does it work?

Can you switch between documents? Is the close button the only one disbaled? How about the manximize and minizmize?

by: payalgoelPosted on 2003-03-16 at 08:21:12ID: 8146625

The Close button of Application gets disabled .The maximise and minimise working ok.

You didn't answer the rest of the questions: Do you know if you have macros running in the background? And what about Alt+F4? Does it work (or at least File->Exit)?

One more: is this happening only with Excel? All other Office and general applications are OK?
Have you run any antivirus program just in case? It could be some sort of macro virus symptom...

I'll do some digging around while I wait for your reply to see what I can find about this...

There are no macros running in the background .File ->exit works. The problem is only with Excel and rest of the applicaotions run fine.I have real time protection with Symantec corportate edidtion ver 8 and the was no virus.
I had done clean installtion for excel and it worked fine for 2 days again  the same problem had come (b4 my putting this prob on this site)

I'm sorry I couldn't find anything on this. The only thing I did find was a page about some application control software (http://peccatte.karefil.com/Software/WinTopMost/DisableClose.htm) that amongst other things allows you to disable the close button on some applications.

This probably has nothing to do with your problem but here's the link anyway.

And if you say you already have tried a clean instalation then I suppose that running the repair facility in Office Setup wouldn't work either...

Sorry for not being more helpfull but I really ran out of ideas.

I've got the same thing going on.

The closest I can come to an answer is the following. Both concern the installation of GroupWise and Office Integration.

1) Why is the Close button (the "X" on the far right of the title bar) grayed out?
Currently, there is a small conflict between the Excel close button and the GroupWise integration feature - which makes it possible for your applications, such as Word, WordPerfect, Excel, your browser, and so on, to communicate directly with GroupWise. ITG is working with the vendor to provide a fix.

The workaround for the time being is to use File | Exit.

And 2) From Novel's web site, http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10063955.htm <---  This one deals with not being able to close a blank excel document.
And, http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10017211.htm  <-- Deals with disabling the GroupWise Integration in Excel.
