what exactly is the idea behind the 250000??

Browse All TopicsHello all,
Need help asap, I have a huge spreadsheet with numerous co-dependent formulas, and I have always been bloody terrible at IF statements, as proven by my lame attempt below:
Basically, I need to do this:
X2 = 11,101
G2 = 50%
AE2 = $150,000
So, I want to take the total of (X2*G2)-AE2, and IF it is a negative number then the total should show 0, if a positive number, then display the total.
=IF((X2*G2)-AE2)<=250000,Z
am pretty sure the error lies in the <=250000, but alas, I dont know enough about this statement.
HEP' ME, HEP' ME PLEASE

How about using the MAX function to satisfy your stated objective:
=MAX(X2*G2-AE2,0)
MAX will pick the 0 if your formula is negative, otherwise it uses the formula result.
Your IF function has two problems: with the Z=((X2*G2)-AE2) for the TRUE condition and Z=Nil for the FALSE condition. Z= doesn't belong in either one, and Nil is not an Excel number. To fix it, you might try:
=IF(X2*G2-AE2<=250000,X2*G
This means, if X2*G2-AE2 is less than (or equal to) 250,000 then use that number, otherwise use 0.
De_wagter uses semicolons rather than commas because of his European language settings. I believe that you (like me) need to be using commas.
