Browse All TopicsI have an Excel workbook that contans several pivot tables. My problem is as follows:
When I try to link a pivot table to a word document, only the "current size" of the pivot table is linked. If the size of the table increases (in excel), the linked copy in word stays the same. The values that exist inside this first, originally sized, table in word are updated as they should.
I have tried to copy a larger area in Excel (that covers some empty cells around the pivot table) and use the paste special command in Word but that is not a very nice solution as you always end up with a large area of emtpy cells in the word document that way...
Does anyone know the best way to get links to Excel pivottables inside a Word document so that they replicate the table in Excel exactly, both changing in size and keeping the values updated?
I am interested in getting this to work in Excel/Word 97 as well as 2000, both versions. So please comment on both of them if you can.
Thanks in advance
Carl

Hi Carl
Unfortunately there isn't a nice easy solution for this one.
When you link something from Excel to Word it does have a habit of always staying the same size. You could make the area bigger in Word as you suggested, I know it will put the empty cells there but thats an option.
When your data updates, the link between the two will not force Word to automatically resize.. ever.
What you could try doing is record a macro (don't worry about ugly coding, just record it), of you creating the link and then you could regularly run that macro and have a new copy of your pivot table put into the document.
Something else just to keep in mind, if your pivot table gets too large in Excel, it is going to be a real pain to print out from Word, itmight be easier printing it from Excel where you have more control over the pivot table.
Sorry I couldn't really give you a nice easy solution, if I can think of one I will let yo know
