Question

Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update did not complete successfully.

Asked by: Torriatte

Hi Folks,

Not sure WHAT is going on here. We have a user (of course a VP and co-owner of the company) that is running Office
2000 and I went to Windows Update and downloaded the SR-1 update and when I tried running it I got:

Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update did not complete successfully. For assistance contact Microsoft Technical Support.

See the log file: Office 2000 SR-1 Setup(0005).txt

You can see by the file count that I've attempted this 5 times...

I've searched the MS Knowledgebase with no answer. Did get a hit on that, 255500 at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255500&Product=ofw2k
but that has a Cause "This error message appears if all of the following are true:"

and none of them are true...

I also Googled for an answer for this with not luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks and have a great weekend and I hope everyone in Florida rides Charley out safely !

Chuck

OK, In a round about way I figured it out.

This user got a new Samsung “PDA” phone yesterday and he was trying to install the software on his PC for that and he said he got an error. He was going into a meeting so I tried it. My first guess was that he need to be logged in as Administrator. So I did that and got the error. It was an InstallShield error:

1607 Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime

So I did a Google search on that and got a bunch of hits. The second one led me to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article – 315346

It contained a different error # then the 1607 but the text matched what I was getting but the text was very similiar.

So I followed the instructions in that and once that was all done, the Samsung software loaded fine.

So a thought hit me; this was an installation error and I had to reinstall the Windows Installer, so I wonder…

Isn’t that wild ? J

So how does the installer get clobbered like that ?

And do I get the 125 points since I answered this ? :-)

Thanks !

Chuck
