Can I stop the Configuring Office progress bar when switching between Office 2003 and 2007?

I have both Office 2003 and Office 2007 installed on Windows Vista.  I'm really only keeping 2003 around for Access.  

My problem is that every time I switch between the two versions of Access, it triggers an install process (I guess to take over file associations and who knows what else).  2003 Says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003". 2007 says "Configuring Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007".  The progress bar for 2007 is particularly slow (the 2003 one I can live with).  

Anyway to stop this and just force the file association to stay with 2007 (or 2003, I don't care which one really)?

97 to 2000 and back, this would be sorted by creating a shortcut specifying the prog to use, the workgroup to use, and the file to open. Likely the same will hold true now.

Unfortunately it's not that simple anymore.  I tried creating two shortcuts (one for 2007, the other for 2003).  I added an ADP file that I've been working on.  As I went back and forth between the two, the installing/configuring stage still took place.  (The file would automatically open afterwards).

I believe this is a known issue that M$ does not plan to fix. (I think I read it in Clint Covington's or Erik Rucker's blog, both are M$ employees)

I would like to see a solution to this annoying issue as well.

Probably, no files are "installed", only a few registry settings are changed - but which?
If you knew, a shortcut could run a reg-file before launching the specific version of Access.

Hadn't thought of that...I might try comparing the registry before and after to see if I can simulate it.

I would think that the process is simply changing/updating registry keys.  If someone would track down which keys, it might work to simply import the registry changes before launching an Office 2007 program.

I've noticed that if you close the reconfiguraion splash screen as soon as it pops up, the process is cancelled. Access barks later but seems to work correctly.

Not a solution, I know, but a work-around ...

it includes info about bypassing that setup, altough they say  you're running the risk of apps not working correctly.
