This is a problem that has been with our organization for some time now. Occationally, Outlook will become disconnected on random user's machines. I have been unable to find a common link between all the computers. What is happening is that their Outlook makes 32 connections to the exchange server, and then Outlook is disconnected from the server. If we close those connections they will be up and running again, but it could happen at any time. It has been happening, on and off, for months now. There are no common, uncommon, programs in all the users. The only common thing that I have seen, and it is not in ALL users, is that they will undock their computer, connect to the network in a conference room and then come back to their docking station. When they get back to their desk and connect their computer their Outlook appears to be disconnected.
Some users have said it is a slow painful process, meaning that first they can't send messages, and then Outlook gets to the disconnected state. Others say it just suddenly happens. Detect and Repair does not work, nor does recreating a profile. They cannot even create a profile on another computer. Deleting and recreating or renaming the ost does not work. They are able to access email through our web client. There are no strange processes running and a sysinternal tcpview came up with nothing.
We are running XP Pro with Office 2003. All updates have been run. Could this be in our switches? All users are connected on different switches however. We have a company of 200 people and maybe at any one time 3 people will be having the problem.
Its a gaming company so we'll send you some free games if you can figure this out!!
Thanks!
