Question

can't open ms word documents directly, have to open program first

unable to open a word documents by just clicking it. the only way to open is by opening word first, then browsing from word to the documents to open. have tried un-installing, then re-installing. still same problem.    Help! would like to be able to open word docs by just double-clicking the file icon.

It looks like the program associations have got messed up. Right click on the document. select Open With, and select Microsoft Word. Make sure you tick the 'Always use this program' box. and then you won't have to to this again.

Alternatively, and this may be more useful it if you suspect other programs may be affected with a simiar problem. Go to Control Panel, Folder options and select File Types. You can then go through the list, find DOC and make sure this is associated with Word (use the change button it its wrong)
