We have rolled out Office 2007 to a 20 person "pilot group" in our company and so far, there have been no major issues that I haven't been able to figure out, until today. One of our testers is experiencing an abnormally slow delay when opening some Excel and Word documents. When opening them, there is a message in the bottom left corner of the application that says, "Contacting \\nt4\CMcCann for information. Press ESC to cancel". This stays there for about 10 seconds and then the document opens as normal. Our default set up for our users is to point the My Documents folder to their home directory (H drive) which is located on the NT4 server. We then enable offline files on it. All users are configured in this manner and this guy is the only one experiencing the problem.
I have copied one of the problem documents onto his local C drive and it opens normal speed, so I suspected a network issue of some type but since there are other documents that open fine from the network, it didn't seem to make sense. There are no major differences between documents that open normally and documents that have the delay, as far as I can tell. They are all in the old .xls format and have not been converted to xlsx yet. ( I did try saving one of the problem documents as .xlsx to see if that mattered but it did not change anything.)
I have checked for add-ons in both Excel and Word but all of them are marked as inactive. I have also tried opening some of the problem documents from my own computer and they all open fine.
Can anyone recommend something for me to try? I appreciate the help.
Thanks
-Chris
