We recently upgraded a users machine from Office 2003 to Office 2007. It is running Windows XP SP2. Before the upgrade, he was able to use the "Send to e-mail" functionality in Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. With Office 2007 however, it is no longer possible. In Excel, he gets this error:

"General Mail Failure. Quit Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail system, and try again."

In Word, this error pops up:

"Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Operation not supported". There is then a "Show Help button" on this error and when you click it, it displays this:

"This error can occur if you attempt to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word and the MAPI session was closed and Word is no longer able to connect to that MAPI session. It can also occur if there is a problem with the fax configuration.
To correct a MAPI related error: restart the MAPI e-mail program (for example,Outlook) or save and close the document, and then restart Word after restarting your MAPI e-mail application. Word will establish a new MAPI session, allowing the document to be sent.
To correct a problem with the fax configuration, review the configuration settings for your fax software and make the appropriate changes."

Of course closing Word and Excel and then reopening them do nothing. We have found that if you close Outlook before attempting to use the "Send E-Mail" functionality in Word or Excel, it works fine. Although this is an acceptable workaround, I would not really characterize it as a solution.

Can anyone recommend anything to try to get this resolved. I'd appreciate any help.
