Running XP Pro (sp2) and Office 2003, I get this error message:
"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to wait for the printer? yes/no"
whenever I try to print a document in Word. Or rather, i get the error message about 10-15 seconds after giving the print command. If I select "no," then I get a printer dialog with no printer selected, even though the default printer is installed and available. I then scroll to the default printer and continue (successfully) with the print job.
All other applications have a similar delay in printing, but no error message is given.
I have done this:
-- Stop/Start Print Spooler Service
-- Deleted default printer
-- Using "Server Properties" command in Printers & Faxes, I delete the driver of the offending printer.
-- Stop/Start Print Spooler Service
This will sometimes solve the problem for a while, but not forever. If you Google for the error message, you'll find hundreds of mentions of the problem, but no clear explanation of what is happening or how to fix it. If it's registry corruption, then if I knew where the entries were, I would manually edit the registry. It can't be driver corruption (at least not at installation), as I'm using the latest drivers from HP's site (the printer is a Laserjet 4200).
This is making me crazy. I print dozens or hundreds of documents a day. I can't tolerate this.
