Ooutlook 2007 will not open Excel attachments properly.

A copy of Outlook 2007 fails to open Excel attachments properly, it gets to the stage where Excel seems to have openend, but then the Excel sheet is never populated and it basically just hangs there.  I've done a repair on Office 2007 and that didn't fix it(not sure I have ever seen a repair fix anything in Office) and I have unistalled office and re-installed it but still no joy.
Word and Powerpoint attachments are fine and open immediatly and the Excel attachment will open fine if Excel is already running in the background.
Any help would be wonderfull.

Are you running any antivirus software on the computer? If so try disabling the scanning of excel files.

A few questions:

1. Is it only a single excel attachment that will not open or is it any excel attachments.
   
   If it is only a certain attachment that will not open i would check do a save as and put it on your desktop and try from there, if that does not work then maybe the attachment is corrupted or has macro's in it and your macro security is set to high for the file to open.

2. If it is all excel files i would try saving it to your desktop first and see if that opens it.

It's all Excel attachments, but they all open as long as Excel is open in the first place.  If they are saved somewhere they open fine. It's just opening them direct from Outlook.

I still haven't sorted this out, but if I press the office button when excel opens, the sheet suddenly populates and all is fine.  So it's not a fix but a fudge but it works fine for the time being.  Is it alright to accepts the GlennaShaw suggestion, to be honest that was where I first looked and thought that would be the solution so I suppose anyone else searching for the same sort of problem might be grateful.  I'll do that and then I suppose if it's not the correct thing to do someone can always change it.

This almost sounds like a screen refresh problem.  Try setting back your Graphics Hardware acceleration:

If you have Sage installed, you must diasable the Sage add ins in excel. If it is not sage, check out your other Excel add-ins as it may be an incompatible add-in from another probelm.

First Open Excel and uncheck Ignore other applications that use DDE
o      Office button
o      Select Excel Options
o      Select Advanced
o      Scroll down the right side, check Ignore other applications that use DDE

Second, using any explorer window
o      go to toolsàfolder options
o      File Types
o      Select XLS
o      Press Advanced
o      Select Open
o      Press Edit&
o      Uncheck Use DDE
o      Change Application used to perform action: to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE" /e %1   Make sure the %1 has quotes around it.
o      Press OK.
Repeat for .xlsx file types as well.

I've used that DDE solution in the past without much noticable success.  However the Office 2007 SP2 that just came out seems to have improved all things Office 2007. At least Outlook works nearly as well as it did in Outlook 2003 now.
