The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Using MS ADM template to block saving of Office 2007 format

So I downloaded the MS ADM template so I can do 2 things.
1. Set the default file format to 97-2003, which has worked without any problems.
2. To block the saving of office 2007 file format completely. This is my issue.

While it does block people from saving in the 2007 file formats (docx, pptx, and xlsx) like it should. I now get the "This file type has been blocked blah, blah, blah...." warning when trying to open 97-2003 files or when creating new, replying, or forwarding e-mails. The file still opens, you can still edit it, and save it with no problem. It's just really annoying, and I want to get this fixed before I deploy to 100 users and start getting many angry calls.

I have also installed the Office 2007 SP1, and it did reduce the number of warnings I get, but it did not eliminate them. It is currently at a point where I get it only 4-5 times a day compared to getting 50 times a day before SP1. It seems to be very random too as I can open and close files all day, and then BAM I will get it opening a file I have already opened 2-3 times that day without getting the warning. Same goes for e-mails.

I know for most people just setting the default file format to 97-2003 is enough, but in our case it is not. Our parent company in France is a little behind the times when it comes to PC's and they will blow a gasket if they get a file in the new format. So I don't want to risk it (or my job) at all. So I need to be able to block it completely without getting these annoying errors.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)Start Free Trial
