The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Permanently delete IMAP mail in Outlook 2007.
Hi

Is it possible to permanently delete IMAP mail in Outlook 2007 without needing to purge them after you've hit the delete button?

Some suggested that I should try to select the "Purge items when switching folders while online check box." under edit -> purge options in Outlook.
However, this solution is not exactly what I'm looking. I simply wish to permanently delete the email when I hit the delete button without any strike-through or similar. Basically the same way as in POP or Exchange..:-)

Any ideas?

just adding myself to this, I'd like to find a way around this too.  I switched to thunderbird for this reason.

Check out the following thread. I do not think it is possible to set up outlook to delete them so conveniently.

http://kb.its.psu.edu/psu-all/hd/how-to-delete-imap-messages-in-outlook/

You must switch to another email client for this convenience. Outlook will always have the "Purge" option, it is not integrated on any version as of yet.

Another good solution on this is to choose "Delete marked emails for deletion when closing Outlook" in the Options-menu, and then go to View -> Current View, and enable "Hide messages marked for deletion".

However, what Dag Vidar actually want is the following:

1. Mark the email in Outlook
2. Click on the Delete-icon or Del on the keyboard
3. Remove the email from the current mail-folder
(so far we have achived everything to this point)
4. MOVE the deleted message into a "Deleted" mail-folder in the IMAP-tree.

Is it really so that we'll need to move from the billion-dollar-Exchange 2007 over to the free-as-in-free Thunderbird to achive this?

Why do you use IMAP to connect to Exchange with OutlooK?!?!?!  Why not MAPI?

If it is becuase of remote user's you can still use Outlook Anywhere for a secure VPN-less MAPI connection to Exchange.

I'm not using IMAP to connect to Exchange.. Exchange is not involved at all in this issue. So it seems that its not possible to delete IMAP mail in Outlook with just hitting the delete button..

Yes that is correct, Outlook just doesn't delete as far as I could find out.  As I said that is why I switched to thunderbird.

In you statment "billion-dollar-Exchange 2007"  Was that a typo, in that you meant Outlook 2007?

Good luck.  I am only speaking from experience and months of looking regarding IMAP and Outook.  If it is possible, I gave up.
