The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper error running Office setup

Asked by Dryfish in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook Groupware Software

Have a customer with a laptop which has Office 2003 BUT Outlook 2007. Recently Outlook 2007 stopped working. Double clicking on the icon doesn't start the application. Does not show in taskmgr at all. Thought it was profile related, went to control panel to check profiles. It won't let me into the MAIL control panel option gives me a MAPI error.  Attempted repair of Outlook 2007 and it gives me the following error message "Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has encountered a problem and needs to close". If I try to run the setup from the Outlook 2007 CD, it gives me the same error. Attempted to use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to remove Outlook 2007 but after running it, I still get the same error when trying to re-install.

Media and copy is legit, I attempted to run Office 2007 Professional setup from another known good legit copy and get the same error. Restarted in safe mode and re-ran setup, still not go. System is free of spyware / viruses.

Google searches turn up people with Trial versions or hacked copy creating similar but slightly different error messages. Nothing exactly the same. Again, I have tried 2 different installs and they both are known legit.

Any thoughts? I hate to blow away a perfectly good laptop and reload because of a single issue with Outlook.
