Very simple did a fresh install of office 2007 standard edition. opena existing spreadsheet  takes about a minute to open. if i open it and then minimize it it opens up.  can't explain it better.
Ok wait, so you open a spreadsheet, and it lags, but if you hit minimize, it minimizes, then opens another window?
First of all, your writing is difficult to read as it contains improper punctuation, casing, grammar, and spelling...please take a little more time when writing so that we can understand what you are trying to communicate. I like to use Word with spelling and grammar checking turned on. I'm going to try and interpret your last comment....

1) You are running Excel 2007.

2) You are opening an existing Excel workbook and it is taking as much as a minute to open.

3) Once open it is in a minimized state (a minimized state means that the document is displayed as a window title bar only in the lower-left corner of the Excel document area).

4) If you click the window min-max button in the window title bar the window expands so you can see the worksheet.

Did I interpret your comment correctly?

Kevin
I vote Zorvek as the douche of the year.

It's OK to try and better understand what a users problem is. And whether that means needing clarification from them is OK too. But belittling someone who is asking for help, isn't really the way to do it.
1. How much physical memory do you have?
2. Is this issue for xls files or xlsx files?
3. Is this just for excel or the issue is exsists for word too?
4. If the issue is for .xls files, check and make sure that the file extensions are correctly associated with
Excel,
Lets start like this way,
Start-Run, then type:
Excel.exe /unregserver
(Excel will open)
then
Excel.exe /regserver
(Excel will open)

If the issue is still exists then
> Control Panel->Folder Options->File Types->select  "XLS"->Advance->select Action "Open"->Edit
> under "Application used to perform action:"
> add "%1" at the end of the string.
> uncheck "Use DDE"
For excel it should be - "<path to excel>\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1"
I should mention this as well:

On a slower machine, I installed office and noticed opening word/excel was very slow. I defragged and it solved it. Probably some shared office file/dll that was fragmented 100 different ways. Worth a try!
Alikaz3 you are on the right track. Any Possible solutions.
Did you try defragmenting?
it is in the process will have an answer soon. thanks you guys for all of your help.
it only exists for excel xls.
Do you have the Adobe PDFMaker.xla add-in in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLSTART directory? If so, remove it and see if that cures the problem.

Rory
PS Kevin, I make no comment! :)
That's Mr. Dick Douche to you bud!

Let's take inventory:

1) Un-register and re-register Excel/tweak the .xls file association entry.

2) Defrag the hard disk.

3) Uninstall that Acrobat Add-In piece of junk that, like Google Desktop, seems to cause all manner of ill.

Sounds like a lot of punting to me. Sure wish I had a picture or two.

Kevin
DanielHerrera,
Did you tried the step 1 mentioned by kevin? (
Refer the ID: 21815298 for the steps. If it is not working, then follow the all defragmenting and pluggings removing steps. To find actual route cause your feedback is vital. please responds what is happpned after each step.
Sometimes increasing your physical memory will do the trick, but i will keep this option till the last try.
CAUSE:
you will find a folder XLSTART in your programfiles and if some addons exist sometimes does cause issues.

RESOLUTION:
1. Close all the programs

2. using command prompt  go to  XLSTART Directory under you office12  folder

3. Empty all the files by moving them to a different location ,

4. exit from command prompt and start the spread sheet you were trying to open should be flying

note: if the spread sheet is large more than 10MB or then depending on your hardware config sometimes will take some time to open
Many thanks
Pictures, pictures, pictures. I need some pictures.

To place a snapshot image of the active window on the clipboard press ALT+PRINT SCREEN.

To place a snapshot image of the entire screen on the clipboard press PRINT SCREEN.

In both cases make sure that the Function Key Lock mode is not enabled.

Once you have an image on the clipboard, open Paint, press CTRL+V, and save the image.

To post images here, click the "Attach File" check box below the comment entry text box, and then click the ADD FILE button. Do this as many times as you have images to upload. The images will tell your story for you.

I'm trying to help, really.

D. Douche
going to try the other solutions, defragmenting the hard drive didn't do it. will update as soon as i finish the rest of the solutions.

thanks

guys
Thier is nothing under the xlstart directory. Let me mention that excel opens up fine by itself meaning not opening up a file. it just when i open a existing xls in 2007. now if i choose the button then open and browse out to the file it opens right of way . Weird.
You may also want to check the other XLSTART directory - usually located at:
C:\Documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\excel\XLSTART

Regards,
Rory
PS PDFMaker has been known to cause exactly the behaviour you describe.
you guys are awesome after deleting the pdfmaker in xlstart it opens right of way. it would be an extra if their is a way for it to open in full screen instead of a minimized state when opening file. but opens right of way now.
If the problem is simply that the workbook opens in a minimized state, then all you need to do is maximize it, make any change, and save it. Excel stores the window state with the workbook.

Kevin
thanks guys Accpted Solution
Um, you have to actually accept one or more solutions, not just add a post with "Accepted solution" in it. :)

I suggest forcing accept to rorya (single post ID:21822511)
The problem is with Add ins (main culprit is Adobe PDFMaker):

1. Search computer for xlstart.
2. Move out all add-ins from all folders (normally just c:\program files\microsoft office\office12\xlstart)
3. Open an Excel document and see what happens.
4. If it works add the add ins back into the folders until you find the culprit.
thanks
