The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Access97, WinXP, memory/display problems

Asked by BaconU in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Access Database

Tags: , , ,

Our office uses Access97 for an office management system, which encompasses pretty much all of our daily operations.  Although it was written on a Win98 machine, it has _generally_ transitioned to XP without much fuss.  We have had to do some updating (Jet updates) and service pack installations (for Office97) to make it behave, but almost all the XP machines in the office play nice.  Some of the systems have over 2G of RAM.

We recently built a new system and installed XP on it and did all our usual updating, etc, but we cannot get this Access97 DB to work.  Every time it starts, we get the error message "There isn't enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again."

We've installed all the usual stuff, including the updates for the Jet driver and service packs for Office97, but it just isn't behaving.

The system is a AMD 5000+ CPU, 1G of system RAM, onboard PCIx ATI video sharing ram with MB, running XP with all the latest and greatest services packs (everything but sp3).

I thought maybe the problem was the fact that the video was sharing ram with the system, so I put in a dedicated video card, and that didn't help.  I've tried compacting the Access97 DB on another system but it didn't help.

Oh, and I know that Access97 doesn't have this problem with all DB's on that computer...  some of the REALLY simple ones work just fine.

I'd really appreciate any help I can get on this problem!!Start Free Trial
