Hello there strobbe, the only "tabs" in the Format Picture box are Fill, Line Colour, Line Style and Text Box. Any thoughts?

Browse All TopicsIs it possible by script, plugin or otherwise to take a PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) and resize and downsample all images within, they will only be used on screen so 72dpi will be fine and they only need to be the a sensible size for say 1280x1024.
We are finding Teachers tend to have very large files, which they want uploaded to the VLE, one Art Presentation has 100+ 7mb images, which need only be 50K each.

The method I describe was added in Powerpoint 2002. Are you using an earlier version? Or on a Mac?
Another thing you can try (and I'm not sure what version this started in), is do a File > Save As, and in the Save As dialog box click Tools in the top right corner. There, choose Compress Pictures, selection the options you want and click OK. Since it's the same dialog and options as before, you might not have this option either.
If none of these internal features are available, I used to use a (PC) program called NXPowerLite. It costs $45, but works really well.

We are using Office 2007:
Whilst the option does not appear to exist in the format picture dialog, there is a Tools drop down in the bottom left of the save as dialog that provides a compress verb, it took a 75MB PowerPoint 2003 file down to 3.1MB. We have found the "Compress..." dialog box in Office 2003 where you said it would be (both "Save As..." and "Format Picture...".

Right-click any picture in the presentation, and choose Format Picture. In the Format Picture dialog, select the Picture tab and click Compress. Select the options you want and click OK.
