Office Spellchecker does not work

upon hitting F7 to run spellchecker the window appears normal for a few seconds then the lower portion "ghosts", you can click Undo Edit it looks fine for a second and ghosts again.

So far we have repaired the installation and recreated the registry key
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0
