I am trying to upgrade Office 2007 Basic to Office 2007 Professional and this is the log I get.

Hi, try with uninstalling basic edition and then try installating with a reboot after uninstallation.

Tried uninstalling - that fails. Tried Windows Install Cleanup that didn't help - Office doesn't show in the Add/Remove programs, but cannot install. Tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218 to manually uninstall - that fails and says installation source not found. Tried a third party unistaller and still can't install again. Am going to try this http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/steps-to-perform-2007-office-uninstall/ and see if it works. If not, I'm going to zap the install and start over with a clean xp pro install.

You do have to have a clean install for this to work correctly (even if you edit registry it will still cause you no end of errors in the future - partculary with outlook) . Just make sure you backup your templates and dictionary for reinstall.. Good luck

Halleluia!!! OffScrub07.vbs cleaned it up and I was able to do an install after running it. Found it googling in despair using all sorts of combinations of office, uninstall, etc. Microsoft MVP's didn't mention it on the Microsoft community forums. This was all on a very clean system that had office basic 2007 on it and the customer bought office professional 2007 upgrade. Another Microsoft screwup that they just won't fix. If I could divorce them I would. I HAVE setup a linux box and am learning to use the lamp server. I have 3 commercial software packages that I've written using Microsoft development tools and am trying to re-write one of them on this linux server using Mysql and php. Thanks for all the help anyway. Lynn
