I have a computer running Excel 2010 and Windows XP SP3.<br />

After doing some updates on the machine, when I click on File-&gt;Open, I will get an &quot;initializing places&quot; prompt that just sits there.<br />
<br />
I have done some searching and people refer to removing the my places bar, but I do not have it installed on this machine, nor does it show on the &quot;Look in&quot; area.<br />
<br />
Microsoft Word just hangs on File-&gt; Open<br />

I have a computer running Excel 2010 and Windows XP SP3.

After doing some updates on the machine, when I click on File->Open, I will get an "initializing places" prompt that just sits there.

I have done some searching and people refer to removing the my places bar, but I do not have it installed on this machine, nor does it show on the "Look in" area.
