If the problem stays, try to use
insert
break
section break next page
in stead of a simple page break
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsIf I take a Word document, create a page break for a new page, and put a heading 1 on the first line of the new page, that heading style is also the style of the last paragraph of the previous page. If I remove the style there, the style is also removed from the heading on the new page.
This way I always need an empty paragraph on the previous page. When I edit the text but don't see the style on the next page, use that paragraph, remove the style, the style of the next paragraph head is also removed.
This is very annoying, and I can't understand why this happens, or why it is setup like this. Is it possible to change this behavior?

You are correct this is because the paragraph extends from the bottom of one page to the top of the next.
An alternative method is to use the Paragraph setting 'Line and Page Breaks' and tick the option 'Page break before'. In this case the complete paragraph (Heading 1) is located at the top of the page.

Your first method doesn't work.
1) type text
2) apply heading 1
3) control break for new page
4) type text on new page
5) use a different style (heading 2)
6) go up to the previous page
7) suddenly a paragraph is added after the heading 1, which has heading 2
Section break does work like I expect it, but why do I need to use this? It's absolutely not logical.
@Brochet
I've tried this (use a different language but I believe I found the option), but it doesn't help. Still there is a paragraph added like before.
If someone can explain what the logic is behind this, then please do so.
grexx,
The reason is, that when you insert a page break (ctrl-enter), you implicitely add a "new paragraph" + a pagebreak.
So after the new paragraph mark, you can enter text in the style of page 2.
When you insert a "section break new page", you don't enter a "new paragraph" before this break.
Don't ask me why, but this is the way MS plays the game.
If you like to study this phenomens, make the paragraph sign visible.

Hi grexx,
What I tested:
Control break for a new page
type new paragraph
select that paragraph
apply a new style (heading 1)
This style stays the same even if I clear the formatting of the last paragraph of the preceding page
What is the problem?
