Using Ctl + S in Word 2007 does nothing - supposed to Save a document

Tags: Microsoft, Word, 2007, Ctl + S will not save a document - even though this is correct keystroke

We are running Office 2007 with SP1, and even though the help file within Word says that the keystroke "Ctl + S" will save a document, we find that this is not the case in our experience. Word 2003 seems to handle this fine. Any ideas as to why this is not working?
