Try going in word: Tools --> Options, go to the edit tab - and tick the box that says "Typing replaces selection". Also you could check on the same page "Overtype mode".
Hope this helps mate

The copy/paste function in Word is no longer working as it used to.
Let's say I have two lines of text....
"He explains that forecasts of the unemployment rate ...
better to have used the most pessimistic predictions in their calculations."
And I want to replace the word "predictions" in the second line with the word "forecasts" that appears in the first.
Here's what I used to do to accomplish the objective.
(1) Select the word "forecasts" in the first line.
(2) Copy it to the pasteboard.
(3) Select the word "predictions" in the second line.
(4) Paste it from the pasteboard
Until recently I could count on the word "predictions" being replaced with the word "forecasts".
Now, for some strange reason the word "predictions" will be replaced with the word "forecastspredictions".
Any it doesnt matter whether I've pressed the Insert button or not.
It should also be noted that this is not happening in any of my other Office programs.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try looking in the status bar for the INS/OVR status. See it here http://www.baycongroup.com /word2003/ word03.htm (Inserting Text section)
