Question

[Win2000] Minimized Windows

O/S:           Windows 2000 Professional, SPK 4  

A strange thing has been happening the last few days with respect to a number of programs...
When I open these programs, they open in a mid-sized window (my term for the middle-size, between maximized and minimized).

It happens with the following programs
- IE
- Notepad
- MS Word
- MS Excel

I would prefer all programs to open in maximized-mode.
Is there a setting somewhere that controls this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you close the application, do you use the X in the upper right corner?  What is the window size when you close it?

You could also try deleting this registry key (back it up first in cas eyou need it back).

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data\Settings
or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data\Settings for XP

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The window size is maximized when I close the apps.

I've tried closing the apps with both methods:  (1) File/Exit    (2) The X box at top right
It makes no difference which method I use.

I am not inclined to go this route for two reasons...
(1) This is not a Word issue... As I explained earlier I am having the same problem with Notepad, IE and Excel.  
(2) I will lose all other Word settings.  Yes I can reset them again. But I dont know what they are, so I may have problems down the line not realizing that the settings have to be reset.  

Any other suggestions..

With the registry key, you can export it to a file tha can be used to import it if you want it back.

Try setting the window size to larger, but NOT maximized, and press the CTRL key when you close it.

settings in office applications are often shared.  You can set some things in word and they will take affect in Excel.
