Browse All TopicsI have developed a new problem with my laptop that Word will continually crash. I thought there was a problem with an old trial of 2007 that I installed and then deleted. I was having problems with all the new updates. I finally deleted Office 2003 using the Windows Installer Cleanup tool. I also used PC Tools Registry cleaner to then clean the registry of anything with Office, and then reloaded the software. Good news is that all my updates now work! Bad news is Word still crashes.
Interesting but Word doesn't even have to be open for it to crash. Sometimes just Outlook (I use Word as my editor in Outlook) being open will get the pop up "Microsoft Office Word ahs encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I can send the error report or not and I can have Microsoft try to recover my work.
In the error signature I get the following:
AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 11.0.8307.0 AppStamp: 49ee835a
ModName: winword.exe ModVer: 11.0.8307.0 ModStamp: 49ee835a
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00074d31
All updates have been applied, virus scan run etc. Laptop is running XP Pro Ran out of ideas!
Thanks,

If you turn word off as your email editor, does Word still crash on you? Here are a few things that may help:
Check for Disabled items in Word and Outlook:
Delete all your temp files
Delete the Normal.dot as anil_kumar137 suggested above
Delete any Outlook Temp files
Turn off Word as your email editor.
Perform some basic systems maintenance:
I am not sure if it was a combination of everything, or one part of it, but here is what I did based on the above suggestions.
I did a windows search for ~* and deleted all files that I could. Some would not delete because they were in use. I also did not delete TMP folders that were used by other programs.
I looked under Help and About (word and Outlook) the only things that were disabled were the business contact manager and PDF Maker. I left both of those disabled.
I then did a Windows Search for Normal.dot and changed all to OldNormal.dot.
Then I did a disk cleanup and then did a reboot.
I have run both Outlook and Word without any problems since!
Thanks for the help!
