Can you print on another printer??
Also have you tried printing from Word before installing any service packs or updates for office?

A clients PC with Windows-XPP and Office-2003 came down with the sinowal virus, but printing worked with no problems. The PC was completely reformatted (long, full version) and Windows-XPP and Office-2003 were installed fresh.
This PC is connected to a network and uses a HP 4515tn LaserJet printer as its default printer via IP printing. Before the format and re-install, printing was fine. Since the re-install, MOST of the time a document is printed from Word-2003, the error Word has encountered an error and needs to close is displayed, nothing is printed and Word has to be closed.
The printer was set up using the latest driver(s) from the HP website.
One by one, I installed Service packs 2 and 3 for Windows-XP and Service packs 2 and 3 for Office-2003. Same error.
I installed all of the Microsoft updates. Same error.
I even placed a call to HP, paid $39, spent over an hour on the phone with them but had no luck printing from Word. (The printer will print test pages OK, print from Accounting software OK, and from Notepad OK). HP said that the problem was Microsoft Office.
I uninstalled and re-installed Office-2003 (again). Same error.
I looked up the error message here on Experts-Exhange and went through steps on a Microsoft support page to remove templates (Normal.Dot), Add-Ins, Options, etc. Still have the error.
Have unchecked the Word as editor option in Outlook. Same error.
Does anyone have any ideas other than tossing this PC out of a 17th story window??
Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hi - thanks.
Yes, that was the Microsoft article that I used. I tried all of the changes to no avail. There were no add-ins. Also, I can print from Word to another printer that is a different model laserjet. The errors were there before any service packs were added, but adding the service packs did not solve the problem.
Seems like something with the driver is driving Word mad! :) Try using the Universal HP driver.. This might solve it... Get it here: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/
There is PCL-5 PCL-6 and Postscript.. If you are not sure what to use use the Postscript :)
Let me know if this worked :)

Word tests the printing system harder than most other applications.

Just to be sure, was this the Microsoft article that you followed, and did you do the registry changes?
