Creating a word document programatically

I want to be able to create a word document with fields populated from a selected record in a SQL table.
The front end will be a windows form with either a button or a gridview.
Can anyone tell me either how to do this or even start ?

If your data is from one table, or a query with only one-to-one joins, then mail merge would be the easiest. You can do that without any coding, and produce one document section for each record in your table or query.

Look in the Mailings tab. The 'Start Mail Merge' button has a 'Step-by-Step Mail Merge Wizard...' item in it.

that is kind of what I am looking for although I would like it to be a windows form front end .
any ideas if that solution would work on a windows form ?

I want the document to be created automatially from a windows form and not having the users having to run a wizard .

Martin,

I think by doing some modifications in this code, you can achieve this. This example is for exporting dataset to word. So you can use it any controls binding dataset.
