Is it possible to put line numbers in the left margin automatically in MS Word?

When I saved and re-opened my line-numbered document, all the line numbers were gone.  The settings are still the same.  Do you know why this might have happened?

No idea at all - I just thought I'd test it myself and when I turn on line numbering, click save, then close, I can reopen the document and the line numbers are still there. I'm sorry I don't have an explanation for you.

My margins were set to small.  They have to be of a certain size to show up.  Thanks for getting back to me.
