The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft Office 2003 Spell Check problem

How can Word 2003 Office Spell Check be made to recognize hyphenated words in an associated custom dictionary?  Is there a way to get it to recognize hyphenated words?

The Problem I have is that the words in my document have no non-hyphenated correct-spelling alternative:
I'm not using words like "COUNTRY-FAIR" where both words are legitimate properly-spelled words - like that.

I'm using words where one is usually an okay spelled word, and the other is ONLY considered "spelled correctly" if it is hyphenated:   With the below word - I ADDED it to the custom dictionary, and I still have problems:

The spell checker works to an extent for words on my project - but I find the spell checker is dumb when it comes to correcting words with hyphens or multiple hyphens in them - it treats the hyphen as a word-separator, and consequently, treats each portion of the special word, as a different word that is mispelled - it rarely ever treats the whole hyphenated word as a single object

Take a sample word: "EL-APT-EN" (which was added to custom dictionary) - now I have "ignore capitalized words" unchecked, because the words I deal with in this project are all capitalized... (yes these words are not traditional english hyphenated words, but Word should be able to recognize that because these words are hyphenated, they should be treated as a single entity, and corrected accordingly to the custom dictionary I have)

Now, (as seen in attached screenshot) if I mispell it EL-IPT-EN it only underlines "IPT" as being spelled incorrectly - it does not bridge the hyphens and underline the entire word like I want it to.

Likewise, it will only offer spelling suggestions for the "IPT" portion of the underlined word - it offers me "PIT" and other potential two to three letter spellings for this word, but it doesn't bridge the hyphen when it checks this word...

HELP!!!!!   I want it to be able to recognize the ENTIRE hyphenated string as a single word, and also offer 'EL-APT-EN" as a suitable corrected spelling for the above misspelling "EL-IPT-EN"Start Free Trial
